VYPE’s District 14-5A Football Preview

The Highlanders were hit hard by graduation but aren’t they always. Coach Mark Schmidt, however, is blessed with a bona field star in running back Patrick Carr, who rushed for 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2012.

After a 4-6 record in 2012, College Park could make some waves in District 14-5A this season. Their strength is on the defensive side of the ball where Tristan Newman leads a talented bunch. The Cavs’ defensive backfield will be stingy with seniors Alex Myres, Eric Harrell, and Stephan Johnson. Ryder Lucas will also pitch in.

Oak Ridge’s 1-9 season does not bode well for team morale, but the north Houston community is excited about the development of their program under second-year coach Dereck Rush. The War Eagles are buying into Rush’s system and none more than quarterback Braden Letney. Rush has a nice stable of running backs as well with Kramer, Kwame Etwi and DeMarcus Durst.Eight returners are back on defense lead by linebacker Clayton Grett and defensive backs J.D. Hurd and Tyler Marcel.
