But this time it was an outright fourth-place finish, allowing the War Eagles to skip the tiebreaker that tripped them up the previous two years and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

“It was a big achievement,” coach Tommie Lynn Sledge said. “It was something that was very important to the girls.

“We’re in a tough district, and we’re always going to be in a tough district, but redrawing the (district) lines every couple years gives us something to revamp, and that’s exactly what it did last year.”
