Running back Nicholas Black and the rest of the College Park offense will have to keep up with Lufkin on Friday night.

Urgency and panic. There’s a big difference between the two, and College Park coach Richard Carson is confident his players are feeling the former rather than the latter.

The Cavaliers (4-3, 1-2 in District 14-5A) host Lufkin (2-5, 1-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a game that will be crucial in deciding the postseason fates of both teams. The Panthers won last year’s contest, 40-7.

“If anybody thinks that Lufkin is way down, they’re sadly mistaken,” Carson said. “They’re coaching hard, and they’re playing hard.”

College Park will be trying to rebound from a 41-7 loss at A&M Consolidated. Lufkin picked up its first league victory with a 31-19 win over Bryan last week.
