The Woodlands and College Park’s boys and girls teams advanced to the state meet with strong showings in the Region II-5A Championships on Saturday at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. The Woodlands captured both the girls and boys team titles after coming up short against College Park last week in the District 14-5A Championships.
- The Lady Highlanders were led by individual champion Madi McLellan, who finished the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes, 53.18 seconds, nearly 27 ticks ahead of the rest of the field. “Madi, obviously, she won the race, but she had a really controlled effort,” The Woodlands coach Connor Meaux said. “I thought she looked great.”
- After losing to College Park by one point at the district championships, The Woodlands edged the Cavaliers by two points for the regional team title. The Woodlands (44 points) and College Park (46) qualified for the state meet along with Plano West (115). College Park’s Connor Meaux, who was the district runner-up, won the race with a time of 15 minutes, 36.3 seconds.
