The City of Shenandoah was named a finalist to host the NCAA Division III National Championships in football as well as swimming and diving. Shenandoah is just one of 150 cities spread across 39 states to be named host site finalists for the NCAA’s 81 championships in various sports.

The city’s bid for football was in conjunction with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, beginning with the 2014 championship date in December of 2014 and going through the 2018 championship. The game would be played at Woodforest Bank Stadium, which has a capacity of 9,600. The NCAA Division III football championship, known as the Stagg Bowl, has been played in Salem, Virginia, since 1993. Two other cities were named finalists for the football championship bid in Salem, Virginia, and Bradenton, Florida.
