College Park Speech & Debate Team

The College Park Speech and Debate team kicked off their season with a strong start. Only having competed in three tournaments, the team has already produced state qualifiers and finalists. At The Woodlands High Tournament, first-year novice freshmen cleared to finals at their very first high school tournament. Freshmen Linzy Woods, Imara Inayatali, Michael Lyon and Nikhi Zimmerman advanced to finals and placed in Poetry, Prose, and Dramatic Interpretation.

Junior Adam Calhoun won Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate. The Langham-Springs Tournament resulted in many successes for the College Park Speech and Debate Team. Junior Adam Calhoun won the Best Speaker Award. Freshman Imara Inayatali placed as a finalist in Novice Prose and Oratory. Senior Jahnavi Muppaneni placed as a finalist in Varsity Extemperaneous Speaking. Last but not least, some of the team competed at a national-level Debate Tournament in Grapevine. Senior Hudson Attar broke to double-octofinals and sophomore Venkatesh Muppaneni broke to quarterfinals. These guys along with Adam Calhoun will be at a national-level Debate Tournament in Louisiana in the next month.

The TWCP debate team took home many awards from last weekend’s tournament at Langham Creek High School. Adam Calhoun won First Place Speaker and was awarded as a quarterfinalist in Lincoln Douglas debate. Adam has also qualified for the Texas Forensic Association state tournament in February. Several other students took home high honors in speech events. Coming in November, the team will compete at the inaugural UIL congressional debate district meet at A&M Consolidated High School wherein students in the top ranks will advance straight to the UIL state competition.
