Texas women’s team tabbed second-best in the nation while Longhorn men ranked third.
The University of Texas Track and Field team’s 2013-14 women’s and men’s recruiting classes have been ranked second and third in the nation, respectively, by Track & Field News.
The Longhorn women trailed only Oregon while the men followed Oregon and Florida. It marks the first time since 2003 that both the men and the women earned top-three nods.
The UT women’s team made its eighth appearance in the top five, tied for third most nationally, with a class consisting of 10 freshmen and four transfers. In addition to high school All-America quarter-milers Kendall Baisden (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and Nia Dorner (Sacramento, Calif./Cordova), the class includes transfers Ashley Spencer, a two-time NCAA 400-meter champion and IAAF World Championships silver medalist (4x400m relay) and Morolake Akinosun, an All-American and the 2013 USA Junior champion in the 100m.
Texas kicks off its 2014 indoor season on Jan. 17 at the Arkansas-Texas Dual in Fayetteville.
