The Hooks will recognize Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Taylor Taska and Eric Weiss of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the 10th South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet on Wednesday, January 29, at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.
Taska and Weiss are their team’s respective 2013 MVPs.
Taska, Lone Star Conference Tournament MVP and co-LSC Player of the Year, led the Javelinas to a school-record 42 wins. After claiming its fifth Lone Star Conference Tournament title, TAMUK fell to St. Edward’s in the NCAA South Central Region Finals at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville.
As a junior, Taska posted a .350 batting average – second on the team. The first baseman topped the LSC with seven home runs, 49 RBIs, 72 hits and 119 total bases.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound right-hander also fashioned a 9-3 record and 3.00 ERA over 15 mound appearances (eight starts). Taska underwent Tommy John surgery in January 2011. click here for complete story
