Girls Basketball: The Woodlands girls escape A&M Consolidated, 50-45

The Woodlands rallied by A&M Consolidated in the fourth quarter of a tense game between District 14-5A’s top two teams on Friday night.

Kristin Mahoney made four free throws in the final 39 seconds to seal the Lady Highlanders’ 50-45 victory over the Lady Tigers at The Woodlands High School. Mahoney finished with 14 points, and Pau Bremer blocked a potential game-tying 3-pointer by A&M Consolidated’s Lulu McKinney with 30 seconds remaining.

“We knew it was going to be a battle,” Lady Highlanders coach Dana Bruton said. “This was exactly what I expected out of this game. I’m just really pleased that the kids hung in there and finished. There were a lot of times when they could’ve quit, and they didn’t.”

The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 16 times in the first half and trailed 27-15 at the 5:45 mark of the second quarter. click here for complete story
