WRESTLING: Area coaches hoping Berry Center is future site for state tournament

Since the Berry Center opened in 2006, Cypress Ridge wrestling head coach Tim Ray has had big plans to use the venue to showcase his sport.

He’s made headway with the CFISD Wrestling Invitational and took another step forward by luring the Class 5A and 4A regional tournament to the Berry Center this season.

Only thing more exciting than hosting regionals is hosting the state tournament, which is exactly in his crosshairs.

Fresh off the 12th annual CFISD Wrestling Invitational at the Berry Center on Friday and Saturday, the venue is preparing for two more busy dates of wrestling this season.

The district championships take place Jan. 23-24 and the following week, the Class 5A and 4A regional tournament are on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Berry Center. It marks the first time the Berry Center will host regionals. click here for complete story
