GIRLS HOOPS: Oak Ridge girls hold off Conroe 61-57

Oak Ridge jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead on Tuesday against Conroe, and it looked as if the Lady War Eagles were going to cruise to an easy District 14-5A victory. The Tigerettes had other plans.

Conroe fought back and got within two points of the lead with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter, but two critical free throws from Amanda Tyson and Kelsey Scibek sealed the 61-57 win for the homestanding Lady War Eagles.

“We had talked about just having composure,” Oak Ridge coach Molly Gibson said. “We’ve been in some tight games this year, and I think they see the difference when they just relax and execute versus getting in that panic mode. When you play like there’s no pressure, there’s not as many mistakes.”

Kameron Boren led the charge for the Lady War Eagles with a game-high 18 points, nine of which came in the second quarter. Raquel Kellow was also instrumental with 15 points, and Scibek and Tyson added seven apiece. click here for complete story and photo gallery
