Basketball: College Park, The Woodlands set for showdown

Tuesday night’s District 14-5A showdown between College Park and The Woodlands will be a study in contrast. It may also go a long way toward deciding the league champion.

Both teams are off to 4-0 starts in district play, and both have posted impressive marks in the opening two months of the season.

While downplaying the significance of the matchup, both coaches said they expect a great game in a great atmosphere at The Woodlands High School.

“It’s important just like any other district game,” The Woodlands coach Dale Reed said. “There’s a little bit more juice to it because it’s College Park. They’re really good, so we’re going to have to play our best to beat them.”

The Cavaliers (22-5) have won 15 games in a row since a 55-53 loss to Del Valle in the Austin Bowie tournament on Dec. 6. They are averaging 64.7 points per game while surrendering just 53.9.
