Things started out well for the Oak Ridge High School girls’ basketball team in its home encounter with Lufkin in a District 14-5A game Tuesday.
But the visiting Lady Panthers used a smothering full-court press and a decisive height advantage to limit Oak Ridge (2-5, 12-13) to just six points in the second half, and Lufkin, now 3-3 in district play, took a 48-41 victory with them on the long bus ride back home.
A 3-pointer by Jamy Smith and a free throw from Macie Chapa accounted for all four points scored by Oak Ridge in the third quarter, and Kelsey Scibek scored the lone field goal for Oak Ridge in the fourth quarter.
