Boys soccer roundup: The Woodlands off to 5-0-1 start

The Woodlands closed its stay in Georgetown with a rousing 4-0 victory over Round Rock in the Governor’s Cup on Saturday. Buba Jobe scored two goals while Primo Covarrubias and Rhett Pruitt added one apiece. Covarrubias, Justin Tabarini and Fernando Roldan each notched an assist. The Highlanders’ Simon Boehme played goalkeeper for most of the game, and Jorge Cabrera completed the shutout.

“We’re starting to move the ball around and, hopefully, we’re finding a rhythm,” The Woodlands coach Hans Kleinschmidt said.

On Friday, the Highlanders played Lake Travis to a scoreless draw.

Oak Ridge 5, Manvel 1: The War Eagles finished Brenham’s Select Cup in style on Saturday. Mateo Ibranji and Alasdair McPhail scored two goals apiece and Logan Aucoin added another. Alec Burmeister and Aucoin recorded assists.
