The Woodlands was supposed to slow down last season after graduating four all-state players, including standout pitcher Paige McDuffie, a former Gatorade National Player of the Year winner. That didn’t happen. Instead, the Highlanders won their sixth consecutive district title and made the regional finals for the third straight year.

“A lot of people weren’t expecting much from us because we had lost so many key players,” said coach Richard Jorgensen, who’s entering his 10th season. “(But) the key thing was we still had a lot of talent on that team, and we had really great chemistry also. Last year was a really good mix.”

The Highlanders lost more talent last year, including second baseman Alyssa Jorgensen and first baseman Taylor Vick, but nobody’s counting them out this season. click here for complete story and photo gallery
