Girls Basketball: The Woodlands handles Lufkin, stays atop District 14-5A

52e9cd8332bf2.imageThe Woodlands used a 17-0 run in the first half to pull away from Lufkin on Wednesday night as the Lady Highlanders cruised to a decisive 61-44 victory. The Lady Highlanders improved to 20-8 overall and 10-1 in District 14-5A, rebounding from Friday’s road loss to A&M Consolidated (24-6, 9-1), which is again one-half game out of first place after a 57-45 win over Bryan on Tuesday night. Lufkin, meanwhile, dropped to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in league play.

“We know we could have played better at A&M, but that’s behind us and we don’t focus on things we can’t control anymore,” The Woodland coach Dana Bruton said. “Today’s game was our focus.”

Nicole Iademarco scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on Senior Night to lead the charge for The Woodlands. The Arizona State commit hit 12 of her 17 shots, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. click here for complete story
