The Woodlands used a 17-0 run in the first half to pull away from Lufkin on Wednesday night as the Lady Highlanders cruised to a decisive 61-44 victory. The Lady Highlanders improved to 20-8 overall and 10-1 in District 14-5A, rebounding from Friday’s road loss to A&M Consolidated (24-6, 9-1), which is again one-half game out of first place after a 57-45 win over Bryan on Tuesday night. Lufkin, meanwhile, dropped to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in league play.

“We know we could have played better at A&M, but that’s behind us and we don’t focus on things we can’t control anymore,” The Woodland coach Dana Bruton said. “Today’s game was our focus.”
