The Woodlands Township and the World Triathlon Corporation will team up for another five years to host Ironman Texas along with agreeing to move the endurance race to April from May. Moving the event up to April, according to Bruce Tough, chairman for The Woodlands Township board, will give athletes one last opportunity to qualify for the championship event in Hawaii in October. He said May has been a problem due to the hot temperatures.
“It is great for The Woodlands and the whole county,” Tough said. “We love it here. This event places Montgomery County on the map.”
The township board originally entered into the agreement with WTC in 2010. The first event in The Woodlands was in 2011.
