Golf: The Woodlands bounces back, captures District 14-5A championship

The Woodlands overcame a four-stroke deficit after the first round and captured the District 14-5A golf championship on Tuesday in Huntsville.

14-5A Boys GolfPlaying in unusually windy conditions at the Raven Nest Golf Club, The Woodlands turned in a second-round score of 301 to finish at 604, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Lufkin.

The Woodlands B team finished third at 627, followed by Bryan, A&M Consolidated and Conroe.

“Our guys kept plugging,” The Woodlands coach Steve Cribari said. “You had to have a lot of patience. The wind was brutal, and made it very difficult. There’s going to be mistakes.”

The Woodlands A team’s other scores were turned in by Carter Patterson (76-75 — 151), Austin Shaw (81-77 — 158) and Chester Wang (80-78 — 158). Pontus Dahlstrom had College Park’s low score (78-78 — 156), while Oak Ridge was led by Bryce Oden (78-83 — 161).
