Soccer: Woodlands returns core group for next year

The Woodlands girls soccer team will have to contend with Kingwood the next two years, with the UIL’s biannual realignment putting the two powerhouse programs into the same district again.

622x350 (65)But for now, the Highlanders can enjoy another district championship season. After seeing their long streak of titles snapped during their last stint in the same field with Kingwood, they made it back-to-back district championships this season, going 11-1 in District 14-5A.

“Winning it outright this year was very nice because we tied last year and went (to the playoffs) as a second-place team,” coach Dina Graves said.

“For this group, it was tremendous, mainly because we lost a lot of kids from last year – and not just to graduation, but otherwise – so this group did a great job of playing together and making things happen.”
