The Woodlands advanced to the Region II-5A softball quarterfinals on Saturday, defeating Austin Bowie 5-3 to sweep the best-of-three series at Bryan High School.
Ranked eighth in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the Lady Highlanders (32-2) will next face No. 6 Atascocita at a site and date to be determined.
“It was a great effort by our team,” Lady Highlanders coach Richard Jorgensen said. “Hats off to Bowie. They’re a very scrappy team and played well. It was a good, intense series. We had to grow up a little bit.”
