Students from Conroe Independent School District will show off their creative sides – and compete for the grand prize at the Destination Imagination Global Finals.
The district is sending seven teams to the tournament in Knoxville scheduled from May 21 to May 24. Five are from the Academy of Science and Technology, one is from Collins Intermediate and one is from Wilkerson Intermediate.
Sarah Wood, early childhood and gifted programs specialist, oversees the Destination Imagination program throughout Conroe ISD. She said the competition’s mission is to develop opportunities to teach imaginative problem-solving and foster creativity – skills needed in future leaders and innovators.
Nicole Chin, 16, is a junior at the Academy. She will be advancing to the global competition – and also attended last year. “It was amazing to see people from all over the world,” Chin said. “We met a lot of nice people from outside the country and learned about different cultures. The adrenaline rush is fun for me,” she said. “I love working with other people and being able to explore my imagination.”
Chin said the competition has enhanced her knowledge in a number of ways – from basic shop skills to architecture and to science. click here for complete story
