A pair of throwers turned the Class 5A boys shot put at the UIL State Track and Field Championships into a showcase for Conroe ISD.
College Park senior Tristen Newman finished in second place for the second straight year and The Woodlands freshman Adrian Piperi delivered a third-place showing Saturday at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Newman now has two state silver medals to go with a fifth-place showing from his sophomore year.
“I’m a little disappointed, but also not too disappointed because I still got the silver,” he said. “I worked hard all year. … And I got to enjoy the state meet three times.”
