STAR students recognized at CISD Board meeting

Graduating seniors who participated in the Students Together Achieving Results (STAR) Program were recognized at the May Board of Trustees meeting. This was the fifth group of participants to graduate and the Board wanted to honor them for their hard work and persistence.

IMG_7810 (1)Four years ago, high school counselors were asked to identify ninth grade students who did not have a successful freshman year and invite them to participate in STAR. The program is designed to build strong relationships between counselors and underachieving students, while exposing those students to more opportunities to learn about themselves and to plan for their futures. The program has grown from a summer program to a year-around program of monthly meetings with students, as well as visits to community colleges, technical schools and four-year colleges. Students also have visited job sites, completed community service, heard motivational speakers, and participated in the ropes course. click here for complete story
