Basketball: Laminack ready to lead War Eagles program

53619f67ebf4d.image (1)Kentucky coach John Calipari had a phone call to make. It was March 24, just one day after he and the Wildcats had knocked off No. 1 seed Wichita State in the NCAA Tournament. But this phone call was important.

Despite all the swirling chaos surrounding his life at the time, Calipari made the call. The recipient? Oak Ridge High School principal Tommy Johnson. The reason? To endorse one of his former assistant coaches, Neil Laminack, to be the War Eagles’ next head coach.

The call was made, Laminack was hired, and now he has a chance to establish his own Class 5A program in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country.
