Deer Park pitcher McBride named championship game MVP
Deer Park took control early and shut down The Woodlands’ high-powered offense in the UIL Class 5A state championship game on Saturday.
The Lady Deer cruised to an 8-2 victory at Red and Charline McCombs Field at the University of Texas, ending the Lady Highlanders’ dream season one win short of their ultimate goal.
The Woodlands finished its campaign 39-4, which included an eighth straight district title.
“It just wasn’t our day,” Lady Highlanders coach Richard Jorgensen said. “They played great. Hats off to them. … They just played at a higher clip than we did today, at a higher level. When you’re playing at a more aggressive level, good things are going to happen for you. We’re usually on the other side of that, so now I know what it feels like.”
Deer Park (39-6), meanwhile, claimed its second state title in three years. click here for complete story and photos
