Atascocita’s players knew what to expect from Plano. They’ve seen the same things in themselves.
The Wildcats were persistent, opportunistic and fiercely competitive, but the Eagles were all those things and a little more, allowing them to pull out a 6-4, 10-8 sweep in their Class 5A Region II final.
“We knew they were going to be a tough opponent, and they were very scrappy and never quit, and that’s what we got,” coach Eric Matthews said.
“They got after it, but in the end we were able to do just a little bit more than they did.”
Plano ousted Klein Collins, winning in three games in the regional semis, and Collins beat Atascocita 5-2 in a tiebreaker right before the playoffs, sending the co-district champ Eagles into the playoffs as runners-up. click here for complete story and photo gallery
