Softball: The Woodlands proud of season despite loss in state final

The Woodlands players didn’t hang their heads for long.

The Highlanders were disappointed they didn’t leave Austin with the school’s second Class 5A championship, but they have plenty of reasons to feel proud, including their fourth consecutive regional final. They finished this season 39-4, with all four losses to top 10 teams.

“We’re clearly upset, but when you put it in perspective, to get that far, (and) to play that well, our girls had an awesome season,” coach Richard Jorgensen said.

The Woodlands’ second state tournament appearance establishes it as a state powerhouse, and far from a one-hit-wonder powered by Gatorade national softball player of the year Paige McDuffee in 2011. click here for complete story and photo gallery
