The long tradition of driving to Huntsville to attend a Conroe ISD graduation has ended for most of the high schools in the district.
Next year, Conroe ISD is relocating Oak Ridge High School and Conroe High School graduations from Johnson Coliseum at Sam Houston State University to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion due to the coliseum not having enough space for the incoming classes, said Conroe ISD Communications Director Lisa Meeks.
“As with the county, we are excited about the growth and all the potential it brings,” said CISD Superintendent Dr. Don Stockton.
“Both are great venues, however, the pavilion has a larger capacity to accommodate for our large class sizes,” Meeks said.
Although it is closer to home for graduates and their families, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion also comes with a larger price tag. Conroe ISD has been paying $2,500 per graduation to use the SHSU facility and will now pay $16,000 per graduation, according to Meeks. Read more….
