In 1998, there were 32 teams in the Texas State 7-on-7 Association. This year, there are 128. Originally created to give high school football players extra repetitions outside the regular season, 7-on-7s have exploded from a near backyard activity to a legitimate competition.

“At first people didn’t know about it in 1998, and since then it has taken on an identity of its own,” said Doug Stephens, Texas State 7-on-7 Association Executive Director.

There are 7-on-7 tournaments virtually every weekend from late May to early July spread across the state, and nation. This year’s Texas State Tournament will be from July 10-12 at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station. click here for complete story
