Football: Highlanders put up solid showing at 7-on-7 state tournament

The Woodlands’ football team put up a solid showing at the 7-on-7 state tournament over the weekend at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station, finishing with a 2-2 record. The Highlanders advanced out of Pool I by going 2-1 against Southlake Carroll, Channelview and Wichita Falls on Friday.

“I was really proud of the guys throughout the whole first day,” senior quarterback Matt Bonaguidi said. “Once we kind of got our intensity up, we started playing like we have been all summer and really started clicking and playing some good football.”
The Highlanders started the day with a 32-26 loss to Wichita Falls, but they bounced back in their second game, defeating Channelview, 39-22. The Woodlands capped the evening in dramatic fashion with a 41-39 double overtime victory over Southlake Carroll.
