Friends and acquaintances of Brehana Lewis gathered in the parking lot of Johnny B. Dalton’s Dance Hall Monday evening to remember the high-school senior who died in an accident Sunday night.
Lewis, 17, from Magnolia died in a single-vehicle rollover wreck near Interstate 45 North and River Pointe, according to Montgomery County Hospital District officials. Dozens of teenagers silently paid their respects and offered words of comfort for each other. The vigil was an opportunity not only for teens to mourn, but also to heal and learn from the experience.
“We shouldn’t take this life for granted because it’s so short,” Chase Inman said. “All of us coming out here just shows we’re one big family and we’re here for each other. We just need to realize it all ends quickly.”
Lewis, who went by BreLewis10 on Twitter and played volleyball at Magnolia West, last posted “Gonna be a good night of dancing” at 5:41 p.m., just six hours before the wreck was reported Sunday night.
