“New team, same dream.”
That’s the motto for The Woodlands this season as the Lady Highlanders aim to defend their Texas state title and keep the rich tradition of their volleyball program alive and well.
Coach Leslie Madison, entering her 11th season at the helm, lost seven talented seniors from last year’s team, but she’s confident the players she has back are more than capable of stepping up to the challenge.
“Obviously, we still want to get to where we were, but we’re a totally different team, just like my 2010 team that went to state was a totally different team than last year’s team,” Madison said. “So I think that’s the biggest obstacle, is to not allow themselves, especially the returners, to compare to what it was like last year because every season is different.”
The Woodlands finished 45-0 last season, winning the District 14-5A title, the UIL Class 5A state championship and the MaxPreps national title. The Lady Highlanders swept through league play, posting a 12-0 record. The junior varsity and both freshman teams all went undefeated as well for a program total of 118-0. click here for complete story
