As school begins, growth continues for Conroe ISD

The Conroe Independent School District is bracing for continued population growth and development that is expected to follow on the heels of the opening of the new Exxon Mobil Corp. campus next year.

“Exxon Mobil is having a tremendous impact on this whole region,” Superintendent Don Stockton said. “But I don’t expect a big jump for us over the next couple years. I think we will continue to see steady growth.”

Rising numbers of students in Conroe ISD classrooms is nothing new, Stockton said.

“We’re used to growth,” he said. “In the last 10 years, we’ve added 16,000 students. Growth is just what we do.”

The new Exxon Mobil complex just west of Interstate 45 and the Hardy Toll Road will house 10,000 employees. The company’s new corporate home will be located within the master-planned community of Springwoods Village. The residential component of the community could have as many as 15,000 residents and a workforce reaching as high as 50,000. click here for complete story
