Football: Kingwood sets expectations high for new season

Kingwood has raised expectations.

After returning to the playoffs last year, the Mustangs don’t just want to go back, they want it to be the norm as they head into the new season.

“There’s no doubt that we want to go back to the playoffs,” Kingwood coach Barry Campbell said. “We want to get there and win some games. Anything less will be a disappointment.”

The Mustangs return eight starters on offense and three on defense from a team that finished 7-4 a year ago, including a 6-0 start. One of those returning starters from the offensive side of the ball won’t be from the quarterback position as the Mustangs graduated Logan Clift last spring.

A trio of quarterbacks continue to battle out for the starting spot in Owen Baker, Dawson Trudell and Randall Graves. Each bring something different to the table and the competition could spill over to the regular season, Campbell said. click here for complete story
