Luis and Juan Alvarez will once again be two of the catalysts for the Oak Ridge boys cross-country team, but according to coach Dennis Muehlstein, the War Eagles’ success will lean heavily on how close the rest of his runners can stay to the brothers.
Oak Ridge is coming off a season in which it finished third at the District 14-5A meet and narrowly missed the cut for the UIL State Championships by finishing fourth at the Region II-5A meet.
“We’re looking forward to working and improving and hopefully making that last step,” Muehlstein said. “The last two years, we’ve been fifth and then fourth at regionals. We want to at least be in the top three at regionals to make it to state meet.”
The Alvarez brothers are expected to lead the pack, returning to the fold after combining for nine top-20 finishes last season. Juan Alvarez took 10th place at the District 14-5A meet, while Luis Alvarez finished 14th. click here for complete story
