Volleyball roundup: The Woodlands handles Montgomery

Montgomery made a late run against The Woodlands on Tuesday night, but the defending state champions proved too much in a 25-14, 25-11, 25-22 victory.

Libero Jordyn Johnson and outside hitter Molly Scott gave the Lady Bears (7-12) some life with their passing in the last set, but the Lady Highlanders’ powerful offense countered with the final blow.

“We made adjustments. We played with intensity,” Montgomery coach Terri Wade said. “I just think they were all in it and they believed in themselves. They had confidence in the third set.”

The Woodlands (18-2) trailed 15-11 after winning the first two sets, but Courtney Quinn capped a 5-1 run with an ace and had a kill off of an assist from Kendall Cook to put her team up 21-20.

College Park wins: The Lady Cavaliers improved to 14-4 with a 17-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 win at A&M Consolidated. Emily Thorson led the team with 17 kills and 14 digs, Hannah Erwin added 30 assists and Kennedi Smith contributed 14 kills and 21 digs. Savannah Rutledge finished with 18 digs and Kilee Burker tallied 17 assists six digs. College Park visits Klein Oak at 5:30 p.m. Friday. click here for complete story
