Football: Taylor edges College Park despite Cavs’ improved offense

College Park was just a few key plays away from stealing its first victory of the season on Thursday night, but Katy Taylor had other plans and pulled out a 14-13 victory over the Cavaliers at Rhodes Stadium.

Trailing 14-7 with just seven and a half minutes remaining, College Park looked like it would tie the game after A.J. Sanders broke off a 38-yard touchdown run. But the Cavs failed to convert on the extra point kick, which the Mustangs appeared to get a piece of, and that ended up being the difference.

“Just a few mistakes,” College Park coach Richard Carson said. “We turned the ball over twice. We mishandled an extra point that would have tied the thing up. We turned them loose in the secondary a couple of times. So, it’s just a few things. We’re going to fix those things, I can promise you that.”

College Park (0-3) burst out of the gate on its first drive of the night, covering 75 yards and finding the end zone on a five-yard touchdown run by Sanders. The score was set up by a 61-yard trot by Dane Nichols. read more…
