Oak Ridge this week as it tries to rebound from its first loss of the season. The War Eagles are eager to prove they’ve shored up that aspect of their game.
Oak Ridge (3-1) will tangle with homestanding Kingwood (1-3) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Turner Stadium in Humble in the District 16-6A opener for both teams. Deer Park ran rampant through the War Eagles’ defense last week, racking up more than 300 yards on the ground in a 45-38 victory at Woodforest Bank Stadium.
“We’ve got to put a lot of emphasis on stopping the run,” Oak Ridge coach Dereck Rush said. “If we want to have any chance of winning games from here on out, we’ve got to stop the run. That’s one of the things we’ve focused on this week in practice. The kids worked really hard, so hopefully we can get that done tomorrow.”
Kingwood likes to tote the rock and comes into the matchup with an average of nearly 40 carries per game. The Mustangs rank just fifth in the district in rushing, though, at 184.8 yards per contest. click here for complete story
