Volleyball: Oak Ridge holds off Atascocita

Oak Ridge improved to 7-2 in District 16-6A play by holding off Atascocita on Tuesday night. The Lady War Eagles triumphed 25-16, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, but coach Tommie Sledge would have liked to see her team complete the sweep.

“Atascocita had a lot of fight in them, I’ll give them that,” Sledge said. “They didn’t lay down and they kept swinging and running their system. But at this point of the season we never want to lose a match. And we always want to play our best. “We fell short in finishing.”

Oak Ridge, 27-5 overall, controlled the first set from the get-go as the Lady Eagles stumbled. Atascocita (11-23, 1-11) made nine service errors in the first two sets, including a crucial one in the second after freshman Taylor Smith had delivered an ace to put her squad ahead 24-23. Smith finished with a team-high 19 assists. click here for complete story
