Volleyball: The Woodlands wins third straight district title

The Woodlands defeated Kingwood 25-10, 27-25, 25-23 on Tuesday evening to secure an outright District 16-6A championship, the third consecutive league title for the Lady Highlanders and coach Leslie Madison.

The Woodlands (33-3, 11-1), ranked No. 6 in this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A poll, crushed the Lady Mustangs (21-7-1, 7-5) in the first set before pulling out close victories in the final two games.

“Like I told them, some of the things we have worked on since (last week’s loss to) Oak Ridge, we did much better in that match,” Madison said. “I thought our defense and our energy were really good, and Kingwood fought in Games 2 and 3, so it wasn’t like they handed it to us.

“I was glad we stayed composed and, again, brought a lot of energy.”

With the district title comes a No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Lady Highlanders, who are on a quest to repeat as state champions, will face off against Montgomery on Tuesday at a neutral site to be determined. click here for complete story
