Volleyball: The Woodlands sweeps Montgomery to open playoffs

The Woodlands began its state championship defense with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-17 bi-district playoff victory over Montgomery on Monday evening at Marsha Porter Gymnasium at Conroe High School.

The Lady Highlanders (34-3), ranked No. 6 in this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A poll, have now won eight consecutive playoff matches dating back to last season.

“I thought we did a really nice job serving tough, and I thought our offense was clicking,” The Woodlands coach Leslie Madison said. “Defensively, I think we could have been better and need to be better. But other than that, I thought they did a good job.”

Courtney Quinn led The Woodlands with 12 kills, and Rachel Reed once again filled the stat sheet with 10 kills, six digs, four aces and two blocks. Hailey Reier led the team with 10 digs, and Kendall Cook set the tempo for the offense with 31 assists. click here for complete story
