Volleyball: Klein stuns Oak Ridge in 6A playoffs

Oak Ridge saw its season come to a stunning halt on Tuesday evening as the Lady War Eagles lost to Klein in five sets in a Class 6A bi-district playoff match at Klein Collins High School.

Oak Ridge, which ended its campaign with a 30-6 record, held a 2-1 lead in the match before the Lady Bearkats rallied to steal a 20-25, 29-27, 11-25, 25-22, 15-9 victory.

“My girls fought hard — I’m so proud of them,” Oak Ridge coach Tommie Lynn Sledge said. “They have been an amazing group of young ladies to have, and I’m really excited to see them grow in the offseason, as well as my seniors that are moving on to different things. This is something you learn in life. It’s a disappointment, but I think Klein played phenomenal. They were lights out.”

Senior Victoria Harris led the Lady War Eagles with 22 kills, Raigen Cianciulli notched 23 digs, and Carly Graham tallied a team-high 31 assists. Senior Jackie Ward served tough throughout the night and came away with five aces. With the win, Klein (20-15-1) advances to the area round where it will take on No. 8 state-ranked Pflugerville Hendrickson, which defeated Austin Anderson on Tuesday night. click here for complete story
