The Woodlands advanced to the regional tournament for the third straight season on Tuesday evening with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 victory over Round Rock Westwood at Brenham High School.
The No. 6 state-ranked Lady Highlanders (36-3) held on for gritty victories in the first two sets and came from behind to steal the third as they punched their ticket to the Region II-6A semifinals.
“That’s a huge accomplishment,” The Woodlands coach Leslie Madison said. “I know we’ve done it now three years, but we don’t take that for granted. To get to the tournament is huge. We’re only two games away from state. I think a lot of people — after graduating so many last year — didn’t really foresee this happening, and I’m really proud of the kids.”
The Woodlands will tangle with Highland Park at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The Lady Scots defeated Waco Midway in straight sets on Tuesday night at Red Oak High School. click here for complete story and additional photos
