Conroe Oak Ridge jumped on Lorena early and never looked back, cruising past the Leopards, 69-52, in M.T. Rice Tournament play Monday.
The War Eagles scored the first eight points of the game. Alex Hammonds tallied four of his 12 during that spurt, both on uncontested layups. After Lorena coach Eric Benton was forced to call a timeout, the Leopards seemed to show a little bit of life.
Ryan Siler put Lorena on the board with a floater in the lane, with Garrett Goolsby following with a layup on the next possession. But Oak Ridge ended the first quarter on a tear, including a three by Darius Love. That would be the only shot made outside of the lane as Oak Ridge dominated the paint.
