Boys Basketball: Burkett, Highlanders too much for Oak Ridge

ORTWMBBTitleJunior forward Cameron Burkett scored a career-high 34 points in leading The Woodlands Highlanders to a 65-47 district win over the Oak Ridge War Eagles at home Friday night.

Burkett hit seven three-point field goals for the game, as Oak Ridge’s man-to-man defense couldn’t slow him down.

“He (Burkett) played just awesome. He hit 100% of his shots in the first half, missed his first two shots in the second half, but that didn’t even phase him, he just kept coming,” said Highlanders Head Coach Dale Reed.

Oak Ridge (11-14, 0-5) didn’t have an answer for Burkett defensively, however the War Eagles continued to try to battle back. After trailing 20-12 after the first quarter, the War Eagles went on a 5-0 run after a Trevor Graham field goal, cutting the Highlander lead to 27-19 with 4:30 left in the second quarter. click here for complete story
