‘Two Steps – One Sticker’ System begins March 1

Vehicle registration and inspection will be regulated by one sticker.

Texas drivers will be able to simplify the process of displaying proof of both registration and vehicle inspection starting Sunday, March 1. The state will now be implementing one sticker to denote both both requirements, thus eliminating the current inspection sticker.

StickersThe result of House Bill 2305 passed during the 83rd legislative session, Texas joins more than two dozen states that now use a single-sticker system. The new process is not only designed to ensure better air quality, but also cut down on false inspections and inspection sticker fraud. Proponents of the new system say the change makes it more difficult to cheat the system by avoiding inspections. Be forewarned…the new procedure also eliminates the grace period for vehicle inspections.

Referred to as the “Two Steps, One Sticker” system, the cost for the vehicle inspection and registration will not be reduced, but the cost to the state will. State officials say Texas will save $2.1 million with the change, mostly in oversight and sticker costs. click here for complete story
