Had the first inning not counted against Conroe during Tuesday’s District 16-6A softball game against Oak Ridge, the game’s outcome may have been very different.
Sadly for the Tigerettes, it did count. In less than a full frame of work, the Lady War Eagles (9-2, 1-1) jumped out to an eight-run lead and never looked back, defeating Conroe 10-0 in five innings.
“We have a young team, and they just got a little nervous, but (Oak Ridge) is a really good hitting team,” said Conroe coach Jackie Dixon. “We just got behind and couldn’t overcome it.”
Oak Ridge’s offense came alive early after sophomore Cheyenne Cavanaugh opened the bottom of the first with a double, then scored two batters later off a single from Claudie Anzaldua. Later in the same inning, Cavanaugh hit a home run, and she finished the night 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. click here for complete story and additional photos
