Former junior college head coach and long-time Southeast Texas native Jessica Callahan joined the Lamar volleyball program as assistant coach announced head coach Alan Edwards on Thursday.
“We could not have made a better hire than what we did with Jessica,” said Edwards. “We’re talking about a Texas kid who played club ball in Houston, played at the University of Houston and someone who coached in the Houston area. She runs the same system we run. She will be outstanding for us.”
Callahan has spent the last 13 years in Southeast Texas working as a high school coach, camp coordinator, club coach and junior college coach. She will take over responsibilities as the middle blockers and liberos coach. She spent six seasons as the head coach at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, where she built a 71-59 overall record and 33-14 mark in district play. She led her teams to the playoffs every year as head coach, including a deep run in 2009.
