Baseball: Baker, Oak Ridge defeat College Park, claim 16-6A title

With an outright district title on the line, Oak Ridge needed starting pitcher Luken Baker to be at his best against rival College Park. The big man delivered.

On the back of Baker’s complete game, and some timely hitting from the War Eagles’ offense, Oak Ridge won the title with a 4-1 win over the Cavaliers Tuesday night.

“I’m real proud for them,” said Oak Ridge coach Mike Pirtle. “These guys, College Park, are really good. That just tells me we’re a good ball team too, by beating them.

“It was a good ballgame. We just got a couple of hits and they didn’t. That’s the only difference.”

The War Eagles claim the title with a 20-1 overall record, and 10-0 in District 16-6A, while the Cavaliers fall back to 18-4, 6-3 in district, but still in second place overall. click here for complete story
