The Woodlands and the rest of District 16-6A track and field ran into some top-flight sprinters in the area championships on Thursday night at Turner Stadium.
In the end, though, the Highlanders ruled the night.
While District 15-6A flexed its collective muscle in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, The Woodlands’ depth and reliability in the relays proved to be the difference. The Woodlands boys collected 104 points to hold off runners-up Kingwood and Summer Creek by 23 points, while the Lady Highlanders finished with 87 points, followed by Summer Creek (74), Dekaney (68) and Oak Ridge (58).
“You better have teeth, in this district, and in this area meet,” TWHS boys coach Juris Green said, “or you won’t have anything left.”
The Woodlands girls finished the night with a second-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay. Ellyana Long, Ashley Koett, Alyssa Gillespie and Kendall Curzan combined for a time of three minutes, 48.85 seconds. Summer Creek won the race in 3:47.39. click here for complete story & results
